The Green Ring
The natural, cultural and sociological heritage of the Ring traces a cultural landscape that teaches us about available resources and social organization throughout history, and tells us how the parish has evolved and how the urban area has developed.
Up until now, the natural lungs of the urban area have been the irrigation channels of Solà (“sunny side”) and Obac (“shady side”), on either side of the river Valira. Through the Green Ring, they have been joined to other parish sites of great natural, historical and cultural interest, with the objective of creating a large band around the whole urban area of Andorra la Vella. The Obac irrigation channel encompasses the part of the trail with most woodland, but also the vegetable gardens and tobacco fields. The Solà irrigation channel provides a great viewpoint over the valley, from where you can see the evolution of the parish landscape. The Green Ring includes several trails for interpreting the geological environment and its relationship with the urban areas, Romanesque Andorra or the agricultural landscape.
